Why we use habit based nutrition coaching

So why do we use habit based nutrition coaching instead of traditional diet plans at G & S Personal training

Diet Plans work for some, but not everyone...

Diet plans have been around a long time, well over 20 years.

Someone coaching or practising diet plans, focus mainly on the foods they can or cannot eat, it’s about a complete overhaul of what they are currently eating and requires huge amounts of motivation and commitment to stick with the diet.

It’s a quick fix approach, works for some, but for most, it doesn’t. Diets can work in the short term but how often do the results last..?

Some people set themselves up for failure by taking the diet approach; it’s tough to stick it out because we make it so complicated and try to change everything at once.

We personally believe diet plans create a negative mindset towards food, you’ll often look at food as just calories, not as a way to nourish and fuel your body optimally.

Habit based nutrition

Practice one habit at a time

Habit based nutrition coaching is all about practising one habit at a time until this habit becomes a normal part of your daily routine. As part of our coaching we ask our clients to complete a 3 day food diary. From this food diary we can set nutrition habits and goals based on clients current eating behaviours. Each habit includes lessons and daily practices to work on.

Research shows that when people change ONE habit at a time, the probability they’ll retain that habit for a year or more is 80%. If they try to change TWO behaviours at once, their chances of success drops to less than 35%. And if they try to change THREE habits, their success rate plummets to less than 5%.

Habit based nutrition is not about perfection, it’s about practicing one habit at a time until it becomes automatic. Practising is what it’s all about; you will slip up now and again, everyone does, just start again and keep learning ways to improve your nutrition.

We’re not saying that diet plans aren’t useful and effective, we just prefer to use this approach with our clients as it creates a more positive attitude towards nutrition, teaches you the skills to control your own eating habits and creates longer lasting results.
